Weather Guide Gran Canaria
Everything you need to know about the weather in Gran Canaria year-round.
Gran Canaria's Climate
Gran Canaria enjoys a subtropical climate with warm temperatures throughout the year. The island is often called "The Island of Eternal Spring" due to its mild, stable weather. Average temperatures range from 20°C in winter to 28°C in summer.
Sunshine Hours
Gran Canaria is one of the sunniest places in Europe, with an average of 2,800 hours of sunshine per year. Even in the "rainy" winter months, sunny days are the norm rather than the exception, especially in the south.
The Two Faces of Gran Canaria
The island's topography creates two distinct climate zones. The south and west coasts are sheltered from trade winds and receive very little rainfall, making them reliably sunny year-round. The north and interior can be cloudier and wetter, particularly in winter.
Trade Winds
The northeast trade winds are a defining feature of Gran Canaria's weather. They bring fresh Atlantic air that moderates summer temperatures and can occasionally cause wind and choppy sea conditions, particularly at exposed beaches.
